a random stack of books by one of my chairs
darcy from art and sole has launched a 2013 challenge titled the artful readers club. she has invited us to choose 12 books to read over the course of a year, write a review on each one when we have finished reading it, and then do a corresponding art journal page for the story.
i love to read and write and create so this is right up my alley. i had to wait until i came home from vacation over the holidays to list my books because i have so many waiting in the wings to be read and needed to go through them in order to form my list. here it is (in no particular order):
*this story takes place in my hometown although it is not called such in this piece of fiction; plus, it was on time magazine's list of best novels.
*my aunt gave me this book. i am planning to read it in february since it is about the heart. <3 nbsp="nbsp" p="p">
*another book my aunt gave me and highly recommended. it looks like a novel i can really dive into.
*i ordered this book after reading an interview the author gave in the sun magazine.
*i have had this laying around so long that i'm not even sure where i got it! if you lent it to me, please let me know. :-)
*my aunt (again!) gave me this book which was also recommended by my high school english teacher.
*one of my friends (years ago!) loaned me this book and i would love to get it read and returned to her. plus, what a great title!
*i love the gentle but wise words of Pema Chodron and am looking forward to reading this book.
*i bought this at our used bookstore because it just looked interesting!
*another recommendation by my high school english teacher. this book takes place in montana, where i have spent lots of time with family.
*i didn't see the movie but love horses so i bought a copy of the book at a local used book store.
*the author is an old high school classmate of mine. he is working on a new novel so i figured i'd better get this one read so i can be ready for his latest when it comes out.
whew! so, if you are still with me, that's my list. i am looking forward to seeing what other club members have chosen and how they will describe/depict their reading experiences.

great list, only heard of one of them so it will be interesting to see your reviews on them all.
ReplyDeleteApart from War Horse I haven't heard of any on your list and have read none of them so will look forward to your reviews and art :-) This challenge is going to make my wishlist grow a mile long :-)
ReplyDeleteFabulous list Laurie... and love that you gave a little insight into each of your books... looking forward to your reviews and hearing more...
ReplyDeleteJenny ♥

ReplyDeleteRinda
Wish I had a aunt like that! :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful list, looking forward to your reviews! ♥
I saw this on Carmen's blog and was very tempted to join in. What's stopping me just at the minute is that I don't have 12 books in the house I haven't read and I can't justify buying too many more just at the minute! I might have to be an interested bystander and I'm looking forward to following along
ReplyDeleteA great list, I look forward to reading your reviews and seeing what you do for your artistic interpretation....

ReplyDeleteNeat project! I love the idea of creating a piece of art inspired by the books I read, but I've never actually tried it! Can't wait to see your progress.
